Ceramic coating in Shrewsbury: a hard coat over corrected paint

Cartec Ceramic Guard isn't a wax and it isn't a sealant. Once cured it forms a hard, slick surface that takes the day-to-day abuse instead of your lacquer.

Correction first

We won't coat paint that isn't right

The coating is optically clear. Whatever is in the paint when it goes on is what you'll look at for years – coating uncorrected paint just seals the swirls in. So we never sell Ceramic Guard as a standalone add-on.

The car is washed, decontaminated and clayed, then machine polished in our in-house bay. Only once the paint is right does the coating go on.

Machine polishing and paint correction before ceramic coating in Shrewsbury
What it does

The coating takes the abuse

01 · Between washes

Stays cleaner

Water, road salt and traffic film sit on the surface rather than bonding to it. Cartec quotes a water contact angle of around 110°.

02 · Lime · Sap · Fuel

Etch resistance

Far better resistance to bird lime, tree sap and fuel – and Cartec rates it against chemicals from pH 2 to pH 13.

03 · Holds the colour

UV protection

Helps stop reds and dark blues going flat over a few summers.

04 · Over corrected paint

Deeper finish

Optically clear over corrected paint, for a deeper, wetter-looking gloss.

The Cartec science

Why SiCarbon+?

Most coatings are built on silicon dioxide (SiO₂). In Ceramic Guard, Cartec swapped the oxygen for carbon to create what they call the SiCarbon+ molecule.

According to Cartec's brochure, a typical SiO₂ coating loses around 30% of its layer as it cures, while SiCarbon+ loses at most around 5%. A denser layer means better scratch resistance, flexibility and adhesion – Cartec says it can only be removed by heavy polishing or abrasives.

Ceramic coating FAQs

How much does ceramic coating cost in Shrewsbury?

Ceramic Guard is price on request, and paint correction is always done first. Prices depend on the car's size, its condition and the work needed, so every car is quoted individually. Get in touch with your reg or a few photos and we'll come back with a quote.

Can I have a ceramic coating without paint correction?

No. The coating is optically clear, so applying it over uncorrected paint just seals the swirls in. Correction first, then the coat.

Is there a warranty on the coating?

Cartec gives a standard three-year warranty on Ceramic Guard when it's applied by a Ceramic Guard specialist using the correct method, and Ceramic Guard 4life extends it a year at a time with annual inspection and maintenance. Conditions apply – see Ceramic Guard's FAQ. MP Auto Detailing is an approved Cartec Ceramic Guard specialist.

How soon can I use the car after coating?

The coating needs time to cure. We'll tell you exactly how long to keep the car dry before using it normally.

Can a coated car go through an automatic car wash?

We say no – hand maintenance washing only. We'll talk you through it at handover, and you're welcome to bring the car back to us for washing.

How do I look after a Ceramic Guard coating?

Gentle, correct hand washing. Cartec recommends their Ceramic Wash shampoo monthly and Ceramic Glaze every three months to keep the water-repellent effect at its best.

Do you coat wheels, glass or matt paint?

Cartec says Ceramic Guard can go on matt paint, wheels, side and rear glass (not the windscreen), colour-coded bumpers, plastics and headlights. Ask and we'll tailor it to the car.
